The CDAO ensures governance is not an afterthought, but an enabler—embedding ownership, accountability, and ethical guardrails directly into digital and AI operating models.
Equally important, the CDAO acts as the bridge between technology teams and business leaders. Digital transformation succeeds only when insight is translated into action. The CDAO connects platforms to priorities, analytics to decision-making, and data investment to tangible outcomes—improving planning, forecasting, service delivery, and organisational confidence.
In this sense, the CDAO is not a supporting role in digital transformation; they are a central one. Technology enables change, but data determines whether that change delivers value.
